Mosaic knitting is a colorwork technique that looks impressive but is actually super easy once you get the hang of it!
Here’s the gist:
? You work with only one color per row (no juggling two strands like in stranded/Fair Isle knitting).
? The pattern is created by using slipped stitches — you knit some stitches and slip others without working them, carrying the yarn behind.
? Because you slip stitches from the previous color row, the unworked stitches create geometric or tiled designs that look far more complicated than they are.
Most mosaic stitch patterns are charted, with symbols or colors showing when to knit and when to slip.
? Key takeaway:
Mosaic knitting = colorwork made simple — one color per row, pattern formed by slipping stitches.
