Cable 9 Non-Electric Cable
To be used with DesignaKnit Knitting Software and any non-electronic (punch card or manual) knitting machine. This cable senses each pass of the knitting carriage and will advance the pattern directions (interactive knitting) of the software. Which in turn, Designknit will inform you of any shaping necessary for the row you are on.
For Silver Reed 800 series machines (830 (disc), 840, 860 (disc) and 890 (disc) ) use the Silver Link 5 Cable.

It's easy to use. I simply plugged it into my computer's USB port, and the driver installed automatically. I didn't need to use the CD provided. It's probably only needed if you have an ancient computer with no internet connection. I've even used an extension USB cable for the receiver box and it works. I attached extra pieces of velcro to my machines and carriages, including the intarsia ones, so switching is easy.
For the LK150, the black receiver box needs to be elevated. I found that one of those plastic interlocking drawer organizer trays, turned upside down, to be the perfect height. I placed this between the tension mast and the row counter. On the SK280, there's a convenient place on the left of the punch card reader, no elevation required.
I put the magnetic arm under the carriage handles, on the right side. The aluminium arm is screwed to the base, and because of the screws, there's just a little bit more clearance if placed on the right side under the carriage handle. This is especially true on the LK150.
As always, super fast shipping by Angelika's Yarn Store. Absolutely my No. 1 place to look for knitting machine accessories. My local yarn store refused to entertain my request for accessories, even though they apparently sell knitting machines and DAK9, so I'm glad I can still get them from Angelika's.
Thank you Janet!! That is great information. Much appreciated that you shared your experience!
